I have two parts for this position: First terrorism that originates on
foreign soil
With 737 military bases in 130 different countries, we are not viewed
so much as the world’s policeman as we are seen as the international
bully. We should expect that some radical faction will retaliate
against the imperialist US. Our foreign policy should start with the
“Golden Rule”. Like many other American, I have grown skeptical of the
excuse of “we must make the world safe for democracy” while we are
bombing the life out of any opposition to our global presence.
The second part is on the domestic side. And, I should immediately
ask; “Is our federal government involved in perpetrating acts of
domestic terror?”
Like a lot of Americans, I tuned in to the media covering the vulgar
display of federal power against the Branch Davidians. Watching in
disbelief as helicopters, tanks, and reportedly even snipers
eventually reduced the Branch Davidians (down to the women and
children) to a pile of burned rubble. No further significant coverage
of this event by the major media. We all asked the same question: “Why
did they have to kill those women and children?” Thanks to the First
Amendment, it was not long before videos and transcripts began to fill
in some of the blanks.
Then about the time the smoke cleared on the carnage of the Branch
Davidians, there was a bombing in Oklahoma City. The major media put
on the same distorted dog and pony show and this time our “dutiful”
congress responded with the “much needed” anti-terror legislation. If
you study these two events you continue to get more questions than
answers. The one thing that becomes clear is that you get a lot more
mileage (and dead bodies) out of blowing up buildings than you get
from burning out some perverted religious zealot.
Of course, the Twin Towers job convinced our congress that yet more
federal control was needed. I believe that we should repeal the
Patriot Act and, in general, stop treating Americans like they are all
terrorist.
I have recommended a lot of reading material in presenting my position
on various issues. For the subject of homeland security and terrorism
get a couple of videos from Alex Jones
(www.infowars.com). They are
guaranteed to keep you awake at night.
Finally, I do not take terrorism or tyranny lightly. The quote by
should give us added perspective on this issue.
“Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom,
It
is the argument of tyrants, it is the creed of slaves.”
